Day 1... 364 more to go

So here it is... I've decided my new goal for the next 365 days is to learn how to use my Nikon D3100 camera without using the automatic setting!

I have always been a very artistic/creative person and really want to grow my talents.  Making this is into a career is not my goal, but simply to take great photos. During this years journey, I will find a daily subject and take a set of photos.  Adjusting the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO will help me take the best photos I can in any situation I come across.

What better way to do this than introduce the craziness in my life than to shoot it through my camera lens!

Today I decided to use the easiest subject in the house, our dog!  While 8 years old, I'm convinced Kasey thinks he's two.  He has so much energy yet the attitude of a teenager (stubborn and won't do as he is told).  Regardless, I think he is beautiful!

 ISO= Hi 1    f/5    1/30s

Challenge with these was the lighting. Without using the flash I tried to find the correct combination to create the best shot. I made it work but not sure I understand why (just yet).  Day 1, as expected.

 ISO= 3200    f/9    1/1.6s
* He was so good and laid on the floor while I took photos for 10 min. This dog as A.D.D and can't stay in one place for longer than 2 min. So proud!!

 ISO= 3200    f/7.1    1/4s
 ISO= 3200    f/7.1    1s
 Overall, I made some progress (while small) but definitely noticed that even the slighted change in shutter speed, can make the difference.  And the fact that I need a tripod!

And of course, my favorite.  He fell asleep!

 ISO= 1600    f/7.1    1/1.3s
